A man will face court today charged with the alleged importation of MDMA on the state’s Far North Coast.
In August 2019, three packages originating from the Netherlands were intercepted at a postal facility in Sydney.
An examination showed the contents of the packages allegedly contained a commercial amount of MDMA.
Officers attached to the Northern Rivers Region Enforcement Squad then commenced Strike Force Urray to investigate the importation.
Following extensive inquiries, about 1.45pm yesterday (Monday 2 September 2019) a 26-year-old man entered a post office on Dalley Street, Mullumbimby.
A short time later, police stopped and spoke to the man before he was arrested.
Officers then executed a search warrant at a property on Tincogan Street, Mullumbimby, where they allegedly seized cannabis, cocaine, MDMA, cash and two gel blaster guns.
The 26-year-old was taken to Byron Bay Police Station where he was charged with 14 charges including:
- Attempt possess marketable quantity unlawful import border controlled drug (x3)
- Deal with proceeds of crime
- Cultivate prohibited plant
- Supply prohibited drug (x3)
- Possess prohibited drug (x5)
- Possess prescribed restricted substance
He was refused bail to face Byron Bay Local Court today (Tuesday 3 September 2019).
