Police charge man over serious assault of woman at Bulimba

Dutton Park detectives have charged a man following investigations into an alleged serious assault in which a woman was choked at Bulimba on Thursday evening (May 9).

It will be alleged a woman in her 30’s was first approached by the man inside a licensed venue in Oxford Street around 7pm where the man initiated a very brief conversation with her.

The man rushed at the woman, grabbing her around the neck and choking her.

The woman passed out for a short period of time before regaining consciousness and screaming for help.

Residents from a nearby house ran outside which caused the man to run off.

The woman, who sustained minor injuries to her neck and arm, was transported to hospital.

Detectives arrested a 39-year-old Cleveland man today and charged him with one count of assault with intent to rape or alternatively disabling to commit an indictable offence.

The man has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, May 13.

The woman and man were not known to each other.
