A man will re-appear in court today after being charged over the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl in Sydney’s north east last month.
On Sunday 7 June 2020, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation after receiving reports that a 15-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by a man – she had only met that night – while staying at a friend’s home in Belrose.
Later that day, a 51-year-old man was arrested at Belrose and taken to Manly Police Station. He was released pending further investigations.
Following further inquiries, the man was re-arrested at Wyong Police Station just after 10am on Wednesday 24 June 2020.
He was charged with have sexual intercourse with child (between 14 and 16 years).
Police will allege in court that the man, who was at the house to visit a woman who resides there, sexually abused the teenager while she was asleep on Saturday 6 June 2020. The teenager woke during the alleged incident and told her friends, who notified police.
He was refused bail and appeared before Wyong Local Court the same day, where he was granted conditional bail to appear before Manly Local Court today (Thursday 9 July 2020).
The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
