Police charge man with murder after stabbing – Roselands

A man has been charged with murder following an investigation into the death of another man in Roselands earlier this year.

About 9.50pm on Thursday 23 February 2023, emergency services were called to Leonard Reserve, Roselands, following reports of a brawl.

Officers attached to Campsie Police Area Command arrived and found a 24-year-old man suffering stab wounds.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene.

The man has since been formally identified as Ghassan Long.

Campsie detectives – assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad – established Strike Force Poton to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Ghassan’s death.

During the course of the investigation, three people have been charged and remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, about 7am today (Thursday 7 December 2023) an 18-year-old man was arrested at Bankstown and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with murder.

He was refused bail to appear at a Children’s Court tomorrow (Friday, 8 December 2023).

Investigations under Strike Force Poton are ongoing.
