Police charge two after police operation in Ambarvale

Two people have been charged following a police operation in Sydney’s west today.

Just before 9.50pm (Tuesday 18 August 2020), officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command attempted to stop a Volvo SUV in Airds, after checks revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen.

The vehicle failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit was terminated a short time later on Appin Road due to safety concerns.

The vehicle was located abandoned about 10am in Biliken Way, Ambarvale, and a perimeter was established to locate the driver, with assistance from the Dog Unit.

A short time later, a 21-year-old man was found to be inside a house on the same street.

When the man refused to come out of the house, assistance was sought from specialist officers at the Tactical Operations Unit, Police Negotiators, South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad and the Public Order and Riot squad.

Just after 2pm, a 16-year-old boy and the 21-year-old man exited the home and were arrested by police without incident. They were taken to Campbelltown Police Station.

A crime scene was established and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident commenced.

The younger male has been charged with being carried in a conveyance, larceny and using weapon to avoid apprehension.

He was refused bail and will appear in a children’s court tomorrow (Wednesday 19 August 2020).

The older man was taken from the station to Campbelltown Hospital under police guard for observation.

Upon release from hospital, he was returned to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit, disqualified driver, take and drive conveyance, use offensive weapon (x3), assault police (x2) and an outstanding warrant.

He was also refused bail to appear in Campbelltown Local Court tomorrow.
