Police charge two men after investigation into illegal sex work and drug trafficking in Melbourne

Two men have been charged after detectives from the Fawkner Divisional Response Unit (DRU) executed warrants in Melbourne CBD, Moonee Ponds, and Airport West yesterday.

DRU detectives were assisted by the Sex Industry Coordination Unit, Brunswick Police, and Australian Border Force in executing the warrants, which were part of a three-month investigation into illegal sex work, escort services and a drug trafficking operation across Melbourne.

Warrants were executed at Queens Road in Melbourne CBD, Ascot Vale Road in Moonee Ponds and Hillside Grove in Airport West, with two men being arrested.

A 33-year-old from Moonee Ponds man has been charged with living wholly or in part on the earnings of sex workers, deal with proceeds of crime (cash), drug trafficking, and possession of methylamphetamines, cannabis, cocaine, psilocybin and gamma hydroxybutrate (GHB).

He was remanded to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

A 38-year-old Melbourne man has been charged with possess methylamphetamines, bail offences, and possessing an imitation firearm.

He was bailed to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 17 May.

The investigation remains ongoing.
