Police charge two over robberies – Burwood and Lidcombe

A man will appear in court today, one of two people charged following an investigation into two alleged robberies in Sydney’s south-west last month.

About 6.20pm on Saturday 13 January 2024, a 30-year-old man was walking along Elsie Street, Burwood, when a vehicle pulled alongside him.

Two passengers got out and chased the man into a nearby restaurant where he was allegedly threatened with a knife before the pair attempted to steal his bag.

A member of the public came to his aid and the pair fled empty handed.

About 6.45pm the same day, a 34-year-old man parked his motorcycle on Cross Street, Lidcombe, when a vehicle pulled up alongside him and two passengers got out and approached him, demanding his bag.

The man refused and during a struggle with the pair, he was punched and kicked to the head and body before the pair fled.

Officers from Burwood and Auburn Police Area Commands commenced investigations into the incidents, which were believed to be linked.

Following inquiries, Burwood detectives arrested a 20-year-old man at Fairfield on Thursday 25 January 2024.

He was taken to Liverpool Police station and charged with attempted robbery armed with offensive weapon and possess prohibited drug.

The man appeared at Parramatta Bail Court on Friday 26 January 2024 where he was formally refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 27 March 2024.

As part of further inquiries, Auburn detectives executed a search warrant at a home on Military Road, Guildford about 7am yesterday (Friday 2 February 2024), where a number of items relevant to the investigation were seized for forensic examination.

A 21-year-old man was arrested after attending Auburn Police Station about 10.30pm.

He was charged with assault with intent to rob in company and refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 3 February 2024).
