Police charge two over stabbing at Tamworth

Two people have been charged following an alleged stabbing in the state’s northeast last month.

About 4.40pm on Sunday 31 December 2023, emergency services were called to a motel on Goonoo Goonoo Road, Tamworth, following reports a man had been injured.

NSW Ambulance paramedics responded and treated a 29-year-old man for a stab wound to the arm. He was taken to Tamworth Hospital before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Following inquiries, about 1.10pm on Tuesday 2 January 2024, police attended a motel on Armidale Road, and arrested a 34-year-old woman.

She was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with conceal serious indictable offence and accessory after the fact to reckless wounding.

The woman appeared at Tamworth Local Court on Monday 29 January 2024, where she was given conditional bail to reappear at the same court on Wednesday 14 February 2024.

Following further inquiries, about 2pm yesterday (Tuesday 30 January 2024), police attended a home on Kirkham Crescent, Tamworth, and arrested a 43-year-old man hiding in the roof cavity.

He was taken To Tamworth Police Station and charged with reckless wounding.

The man appeared at Gunnedah Local Court today (Wednesday 31 January), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at Tamworth Local Court on Monday 12 February 2024.
