Police charge two people after street robbery in Yagoona

Police have charged a man and a teenage girl following investigations into a street robbery in Yagoona last month.

About 7pm (Monday 27 April 2020), an 18-year-old man met a 16-year-old girl at Yagoona Train Station before leaving together via the Hume Highway and walking to Gazzard Park.

It is alleged two men approached the pair when they entered the park and threatened the man with a knife before stealing his wallet, mobile phone and personal belongings.

The two men, and the 16-year-old girl, fled on foot towards the Hume Highway.

The incident was reported to police and officers from Bankstown Police Area Command commenced inquiries.

Yesterday (Monday 4 May 2020), CCTV was viewed by investigators after the victim’s credit card was fraudulently used.

Officers have then attended a unit complex on Powell Street, Yagoona, where they arrested the 16-year-old girl and her 20-year-old brother.

Police will allege a search of the unit revealed items relevant to the robbery, along with a BB gun and taser.

The pair were taken to Bankstown Police Station where the man was charged with robbery while armed with an offensive weapon, possess prohibited firearm, possess prohibited weapon and fraud.

He was refused bail and will face Campbelltown Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 6 May 2020).

His sister was charged with robbery while armed with an offensive weapon. She was also refused bail and will appear in a children’s court tomorrow.

Inquiries into the second man continue.
