Police charge woman after failing to stop at RBT site and injuring police in Padstow

A woman has faced court after she allegedly failed to stop at a stationary roadside breath testing site in Padstow and injured a policeman who was attempting to pull her over.

About 8.25pm yesterday (Thursday 9 May 2019), Traffic and Highway Patrol officers were performing stationary RBT on Fairford on ramp near Canterbury Road, Padstow.

Police will allege a Ford Falcon, being driven by a 37-year-old woman, was approaching the site slowly on the footpath.

The vehicle stopped and began reversing away from the site. Officers have attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the woman continued driving on the footpath towards Short Street.

Officers have again attempted to stop the vehicle and approached the driver’s side where they heard the doors lock. The driver refused directions to get out of her vehicle and accelerated away from police causing one officer to be dragged a short distance before falling onto the road.

Police caught up with the vehicle after she became stuck in traffic at a nearby red light at the intersection of Canterbury Road and Gibson Avenue.

Officers have removed the driver from the vehicle where she was submitted to a roadside breath test – which was negative.

She was then submitted to a roadside drug test that allegedly returned a positive reading for meth amphetamine.

She was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station where she was charged with use weapon to avoid apprehension, drive manner dangerous, negligent driving, drive on footpath, and fail to stop injury crash.

She appeared at Bankstown Local Court today (Friday 10 May 2019) where bail was refused to appear again on Wednesday 15 May 2019.

The officer suffered a grazing to his knee and hands.
