A woman has been charged after allegedly assaulting a police officer who responded to a domestic violence-related incident in Sydney’s east earlier this week.
About 10.30pm on Wednesday (25 December 2019), officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command attended a home on Pozieres Avenue, Matraville, following reports a 46-year-old woman had threatened a 24-year-old man with a knife.
The man – who is known to the woman – was not physically injured during the incident.
When officers arrested the woman, she allegedly bit the arm of a male senior constable.
The woman continued to bite the officer as she was taken to a caged truck parked outside the home.
The officer and the woman sustained injuries after falling through a boundary gate as he tried to remove her from his arm.
The woman was taken to Maroubra Police Station before being taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for treatment to a cut to her face.
Following her release from hospital, the woman was charged with armed with intent commit indictable offence, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm, assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, and resist officer in execution of duty.
She was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 28 December 2019).
The officer sustained soft tissue injuries to his arm and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Prince of Wales Hospital. He has since been released.
