Police charge woman over $150,000 fraud – Hume

A woman has been charged following an ongoing investigation into the alleged defrauding of over $150,000 in the state’s south.

Detectives attached to The Hume Police District commenced an investigation last month, after reports a woman was allegedly defrauded between January and March this year.

Following inquiries, officers arrested a 35-year-old woman at a home on Shantalla Crescent, Yass, about 7.40am yesterday (Tuesday 4 April 2023).

During a subsequent search, police seized a mobile phone, documents – including bank statements – and items allegedly purchased with the stolen money.

The woman was taken to Yass Police Station, where she was charged with;

  • Dishonestly obtain property by deception (three counts),
  • Deal with property proceeds of crime
  • Knowingly deal with proceeds of crime intent to conceal – serious indictable offence.

She was granted conditional bail to appear in Yass Local Court on Friday 12 May 2023.

Police will allege in court that more than 120 fraudulent transactions were made, totalling more than $150,000.
