Police charge woman over serious crash at Sutton Forest

A woman will face court next month following a serious crash involving a motorcyclist in the Southern Highlands.

About 12.15pm yesterday (Saturday 17 June 2023), emergency services responded to reports that a motorcyclist had been seriously injured after a collision with a vehicle along the Illawarra Highway, Suttons Forest.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the rider – a 65-year-old man – at the scene before he was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition.

Officers from The Hume Police District were informed the driver of the vehicle briefly stopped before driving away from the location. A crime scene was subsequently established that was later examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

A short time later police located the vehicle travelling east bound – approximately 5km from the crash scene – where it was stopped.

The 56-year-old female driver was submitted to a breath test that returned a positive reading.

She was arrested and taken to Southern Highland Police Station where a breath analysis returned a positive reading of 0.150.

Following further inquiries, the woman was charged with five offences including;

  • Aggravated dangerous driving occasioning GBH – PCA
  • Dangerous driving occasioning GBH – drive manner dangerous
  • Negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm)
  • Fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing GBH
  • Drive with high range PCA

She has been granted conditional bail to appear at Moss Vale Local Court on Tuesday 18 July 2023.

Police have also suspended the woman’s driver’s licence.
