Police continue to investigate King Streeet assault

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives continue their investigation into a serious assault which occurred in the CBD in March.

Investigators have been told the victim, a 27-year-old man, had been driving along King Street about 4.30am on 24 March when two vehicles forced him to pull over, blocking in his car from the front and back.

A group of males exited both vehicles and approached the victim’s car.

He was allegedly assaulted by the males and struck to the head with an unknown weapon before the offenders fled the scene.

The victim, a man from Seabrook, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

A 23-year-old New South Wales man was arrested on 1 May in relation to the alleged incident.

He was charged with attempted murder and extradited to Victoria, where he has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court at a later date.

Detectives are still looking for a number of males in relation to the assault.

Investigators believe the outstanding males, who are perceived as African in appearance, may have been travelling in two red vehicles, a Mitsubishi and Subaru.

Police are also investigating whether the parties may be known to each other.

A number of witnesses have already come forward, however police believe there are others who they are yet to hear from.
