Police dog Goose locates man hiding after evade police incident

About 1.45am this morning (9 April 2020), Regional Investigations Unit officers sighted a stolen Holden Commodore travelling along Great Eastern Highway in Rivervale.

It is alleged the driver of the Commodore failed to stop when directed to do so and evaded police through Rivervale and Belmont before officers lost sight of the vehicle.

The Commodore was later sighted on Great Eastern Highway and as it turned on Tanunda Drive, it is alleged the driver rammed into the front of a stationary police vehicle, causing significant front-end damage, immobilising the police vehicle.

The driver of the Commodore then evaded police through several suburbs along Tonkin Highway before abandoning the vehicle near Perth Airport.

The driver and passenger fled on foot. Officers apprehend the female passenger after a short foot chase.

Police Dog Goose was deployed, tracking the male driver and located him hiding in bushland. The man was taken into custody.

The Holden Commodore is alleged to have been stolen from a home in Wattle Grove.

A 24-year-old man from Victoria Park has been charged with:-

• Two counts of Driver of a Vehicle Failed to Comply with a Direction to Stop (Circumstances of Aggravation);

• Two counts of Reckless Driving to Escape Pursuit by Police;

• Two counts of Assault with intent to Prevent Arrest of a Person;

• One count of No Authority to Drive;

• One count of Steal Motor Vehicle; and

• Breach of Bail

A 21-year-old woman from Kenwick has been charged with:-

• Steal Motor Vehicle; and

• Possess a Prohibited Drug.

They are due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 9 April 2020.
