  • Fifty-two new police officers will officially join the ranks of the WA Police Force at a graduation ceremony this evening.

The 36 men and 16 women from Silver and Brown squads will this evening march out on parade in front of family and friends at the Joondalup Police Academy.

Police Minister Paul Papalia and Commissioner of Police Chris Dawson will inspect the graduation parade and officially welcome the latest recruits to their new careers.

The latest officers range in age from 19 to 49 years, with nearly a third born overseas in countries including Iran, South Africa, Botswana, Taiwan, South Korea, France, Morocco, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Seven originate from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, three are Aboriginal and nine can speak another language.

They all hail from a range of previous employment backgrounds including a chef, tour guide, mail sorter, brick layer, dive instructor, waitress, infantry soldier and business development executive.

This evening’s graduations mean more than 400 new officers have been added to the WA Police Force frontline this year.

As stated by Police Minister Paul Papalia:

“Being a police officer is a great career.

“It’s incredibly rewarding, with great camaraderie and satisfaction.

“The cultural diversity and the backgrounds of our officers progressing through the Academy reflect the multicultural community we live in.

“We need police officers now more than ever to provide trust, care, and leadership in the community.

“I wish all our latest graduates the very best as they walk the beats of Western Australia.”
