Police investigate after pursuit in Corio

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a car crashed into a tree during a pursuit in Corio on 7 February.

Officers spotted the silver Toyota Camry sedan driving erratically in Norlane just before midnight.

It’s alleged the Camry was travelling on the wrong side of the Princes Highway when officers attempted to intercept the vehicle.

The Toyota then drove into the median strip towards the Northbound lanes and crashed into a tree.

Police and other emergency services quickly responded to render assistance to the three occupants of the vehicle.

All three occupants have been taken to hospital under police guard.

A passenger, a 35-year-old Lara man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver, a 24-year-old Norlane man and another passenger, 23-year-old Bell Park man were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.

Professional Standards Command has been notified and will have oversight of the investigation as per normal procedure.
