Police investigate armed robbery at Cairns

Police are investigating after a bottle shop was robbed yesterday in Cairns.

Two men entered the business on Sheridan Street at 7.30pm and picked up bottles of alcohol.

Police will allege that one of the men the produced a knife and made demands for cash.

A security officer at the store grabbed the man allegedly armed with the knife and restrained him until police arrived and took him into custody.

The second man fled the scene on foot with a bottle of alcohol.

No one was injured as a result of the incident and the second man remains outstanding.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with one count of armed robbery and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.

Investigations are continuing.
