Police investigate armed robbery at Elanora

Police are investigating the armed robbery of an Elanora jewellery store this morning.

Preliminary information indicates that around 4.00am, two masked people used a stolen gold 2006 Toyota Rav4 station-wagon to smash their way into the northern end of a shopping centre on Guineas Creek Road.

The pair have then exited the vehicle and smashed their way into a nearby jewellery store, located within the shopping centre.

A 52-year-old male cleaner was working in the shopping centre at the time. One of the masked offenders produced a firearm and instructed the cleaner to move away from the store, to which he complied.

The pair subsequently stole a quantity of jewellery before fleeing in the Rav4.

Around 4.15am, the stolen Rav4 was located engulfed in flames at Ellioh Court, Elanora.

The vehicle had been stolen from an address at Abbott Court, Guanaba, around 5.30pm yesterday (Thursday January 16).

Investigations continue.
