Police investigate series of linked incidents

Detectives from Melbourne Embona are investigating a series of linked incidents which occurred in Carlton and Kensington last month.

Investigators have been told two men were at Argyle Square, Carlton about 1.45am on 6 September.

They were approached by three men who assaulted the victims and stole a watch and phone before leaving the area in a dark coloured sedan.

The offenders are perceived to be African in appearance, aged in their late teens to early 20s and all around 183 centimetres tall.

Detectives believe the trio were then involved in a robbery on Swanston Street, Carlton about 1.55am.

Two men were walking along the street when a dark coloured sedan passed them and stopped on the street corner.

A man exited the car and demanded the men’s phones.

The pair attempted to walk on but a struggle ensued and one of the victims was then chased by the three occupants of the car.

He was assaulted and a backpack, passport and gaming battery were stolen.

Then next incident occurred on Bellaire Street, Kensington about 5.30am when a man was assaulted in the street by two offenders.

Nothing was stolen and the offenders left in an unknown direction.

About 5.50am a man in his car on Market Street, Kensington was approached by two offenders.

They hit the car windows and attempted to gain entry before the man drove off.

A short time later a woman was walking down Coopers Lane when two offenders stopped her and tried to take her jacket.

She managed to run from the pair but fell over near Epson Road.

The offenders continued to try and remove her jacked until they were scared off by a passing motorist who stopped and confronted the men.

The offenders ran off and were last seen near Market Street.

At 6.10am a man was walking along Deveney Street when a dark coloured sedan stopped near him and two offenders got out of the car.

They accosted the man, searched him and stole a watch and phone.

The victim tried to run from the pair but was chased down and assaulted.

The offenders were scared off when a witness stated that they were calling police.

Investigators have released images of a vehicle that was seen in the area at the time of a number of the above incidents.

Detectives are trying to identify the car and its occupants as they believe they may be able to assist with their investigation.
