Police investigate serious assault at Oakfrod

Armadale Detectives are seeking witnesses to a serious assault that occurred in Oakford on Saturday, 14 September 2019.

It will be alleged around 8am a 2003 red/maroon Mazda Tribute (similar vehicle pictured) ran out of fuel on Nicholson Road. Oakford, between Thomas and Armadale Road.

A woman from the vehicle began to walk to a service station. She is believed to have been carrying a plastic shopping bag.

A blue utility, believed to be a Holden Commodore, with a matching blue tonneau cover, stopped to assist and conveyed the woman to a Harrisdale service station and then returned her to her vehicle. It’s believed this was around 10am.

It will be further alleged a man, who remained at the Mazda Tribute, became upset with the woman. To get away from him, the woman ran towards Thomas Road.

The man grabbed her and poured petrol on her and set it alight. The 31-year-old woman managed to douse the fire. The man and the woman left the area.

The woman received singed hair and burns to her neck and ear.

As a result of this incident a 38-year-old Maddington man was charged with unlawful act or omission with intent to harm (endangering life, health or safety of any person) and common assault in circumstances of aggravation.

He appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court 16 September 2019 and is due to reappear at the Perth Magistrates Court 1 October 2019.

Detectives wish to speak to the man driving the blue ute, anyone with dashcam footage of the area between 8am and 10.15am or anyone with information, is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au
