A man is in a critical condition after a serious assault occurred in Surfers Paradise early this morning.
At about 1:20am police were called to Orchid Avenue after reports of a 28-year-old Southport man was unconscious after a 19-year-old man allegedly struck him.
The man has then fallen backwards and hit his head on the concrete ground.
The man was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital with serious head injuries and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit.
A 19-year-old Victorian man was transported to the Southport Watchouse and was later charged with grievously bodily harm and common assault.
He will appear at the Southport Magistrates Court later today.
