Police investigate serious collision on West Gate Freeway

Westgate Highway Patrol are appealing for public assistance following a collision on the West Gate Freeway in Spotswood this morning.

It is believed a silver Ford Falcon XR6 sedan was travelling outbound along the West Gate Freeway near Williamstown Road when it collided with a truck around 10.35am.

The driver of the car, a 21-year-old Wyndham Vale man, was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A male passenger of the car was taken to hospital with critical injuries.

Three other males aged in their 20s who were in the car were arrested at the scene after the vehicle was suspected of being stolen as it was displaying false registration plates.

They have since been released pending further enquiries.

The two male occupants of the truck were not injured and were assessed by paramedics at the scene.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and the investigation remains ongoing.

Investigators are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage that may have been in the area at the time of the collision.
