Police lay charges after PSPA at Bellbird Park, QLD

A man has been charged after police made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) at Bellbird Park last night.

It will be alleged at around 10.20pm on May 22 a 51-year-old woman was assaulted by a man after she exited her vehicle on East Street, Ipswich.

The man allegedly took her car keys then fled the scene in her vehicle.

At around 11.35pm police observed the stolen vehicle parked outside a residence on Jones Road, Bellbird Park.

Officers commenced a search of the residence and were confronted by a man allegedly armed with two edged weapons before barricading himself within a room.

An emergency declaration was made under the PSPA at 3.35am whilst negotiations continued with the man.

At approximately 5:50am today SERT officers entered the house and took the male into custody.

A 27-year-old Redbank Plains man has since been charged with two counts of serious assault police whilst pretending/is armed with a weapon and one count each of armed robbery with violence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and driving unlicensed.

He is due to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court tomorrow (May 24).
