Police lay charges – Aggravated assaults in Darwin

Serious Crime Squad officers have arrested a 37-year-old man in relation to two separate assaults.

Around 8:30pm on Thursday 11 June 2020, an unknown male stabbed the 37-year-old and a 30-year-old woman at a Darwin city residence before fleeing. The 37-year-old went searching for his attacker and located a 40-year-old man sitting on Lindsay Street.

The 37-year-old allegedly assaulted the 40-year-old with a blunt weapon and rendered him unconscious. Public housing officers located the unconscious man who was transported to Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) by St John Ambulance with serious injuries.

A short time later, police were called to Smith Street for reports of persons with stab wounds. Upon arrival, police located the 37-year-old man with back injuries and the 30-year-old woman with hand injuries. Both were transported to RDH for treatment.

Around 1:30am yesterday, the 37-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 30-year-old woman who is known to him on Smith Street. Police attended and arrested the man. The woman suffered facial injuries and was conveyed to RDH by St John Ambulance.

The man been charged with unlawfully cause serious harm and common assault in relation to the incident on 11 June. He was also charged with aggravated assault for the incident that occurred yesterday.

He is scheduled to appear before Darwin Local Court today.
