Northern Territory Police have arrested a woman after a dangerous driving incident and pursuit in Alice Springs overnight.
During the early hours of this morning, police received reports of a white Ford Falcon driving dangerously around Alice Springs.
Around 1:40am, the vehicle was sighted by the Drone Unit driving inbound on the Stuart Highway, just before The Gap.
A tyre deflation device was successfully deployed at the Tom Brown roundabout with the vehicle coming to a stop on Telegraph Terrace a short time late.
The 18-year-old alleged driver of the vehicle fled the scene and was arrested by a pursuing member. The offender has allegedly assaulted the officer during the arrest with the officer suffering minor injuries.
The 18-year-old woman remains in custody and is expected to be charged with Drive in a manner dangerous, Refuse breath analysis, Assault police and multiple traffic offences.
Senior Sergeant Evan Kelly said “This arrest was the result of fantastic communication between the Drone Unit and our general duties who have quickly removed a dangerous driver from our roads.
“Unfortunately one of our members was assaulted in the process, again highlighting the risks our frontline face every day as they go about protecting and serving the community.
“It goes without saying that this sort of behaviour is reprehensible and if assault an officer you will be charged for it.”
