Police lay charges over traffic offences – Moulden

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 40-year-old man for traffic offences.

At around 1:30am on Saturday 16 May, the man allegedly pulled up behind a parked police car in Moulden and performed burnouts before driving off at speed.

Approximately half an hour later, the vehicle was sighted in Moulden and police commenced a pursuit. The vehicle took off at speed, travelling at 100km/h in a 60km/h speed zone.

Officers from the Dog Operations Unit and Strike Force Trident saw the man exit the vehicle and flee into bushland on Elrundie Avenue. He was apprehended shortly after and subjected to an alcohol breath analysis which returned a positive result of .201%. A search of his vehicle located seven grams of cannabis.

Further police enquiries revealed the man was disqualified from driving in another state and his vehicle was uninsured and unregistered.

The man was charged with:

  • drive vehicle causing loss of traction
  • driving vehicle dangerous manner pursuit
  • drive high range blood alcohol content
  • drive unregistered motor vehicle
  • drive uninsured motor vehicle
  • drive in NT – disqualified interstate
  • possess schedule 2 less traffickable quantity public place.

He was remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
