Police lay charges over unlawful entry in Darwin CBD

Northern Territory Police have arrested five youths in relation to an unlawful entry at a commercial business in the Darwin CBD yesterday.

At about 4:30am, the youths allegedly unlawfully entered a commercial premises within the Smith Street Mall causing extensive damage. The incident was captured on police CCTV which was reviewed by Strike Force Trident detectives resulting in the identification of the youths.

Later that morning, detectives located four of the five youths in possession of the stolen property. The fifth youth was located a short time later at a residence in Coconut Grove.

A 17-year-old was charged with:

  • Stealing
  • Damage to property
  • Unlawful entry

He was remanded to face court today.

A 16-year-old was charged with:

  • Stealing
  • Damage to property
  • Unlawful entry

He was further charged with offences committed on 11 October 2021:

  • 2 x Unlawful use of motor vehicle
  • 3 x Stealing
  • 2 x Unlawful entry – building
  • 1 x Drive motor vehicle whilst unlicensed

He was remanded to face court today.

Three youths aged 11, 14 and 15 will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said, “Thanks to the efficient work of general duties police and detectives from Strike Force Trident, all youths were apprehended within hours of the incident taking place.”
