Police make arrest – Aggravated assault – McDonnell Region

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 19-year-old man in relation to a number of serious violence offences which occurred last month.

It is alleged that on a number of occasions the man assaulted his partner and other relatives while residing in a remote community in the McDonnell Region.

Several attempts to locate and apprehend the man in the remote community were unsuccessful. Due to the man continuing to actively avoid police, Strike Force Viper were engaged to assist.

During the early hours of Saturday, members from Strike Force Viper, Santa Teresa Police, Dog Operations Unit, police negotiators and drone operators were deployed to the remote community.

As police approached the residence, the man has opened the rear door and begun running into the backyard where Patrol Dog Freddy was waiting.

The man was subsequently arrested without incident and taken to Alice Springs Watch House, where he was remanded.

He has since been charged with:

  • Breach of bail
  • Aggravated assault x 4

The man is due to appear in Alice Springs Local Court today.
