Police make arrest – Assault police in Alice Springs 1 February

Northern Territory Police have arrested woman in relation to a disturbance in Alice Springs earlier today.

Around 7am, police were attending a residence on Lyndavale Drive on a bail compliance check. A 21-year-old woman was allegedly observed attempting to assault another woman at the location. An officer intervened and was allegedly assaulted by the woman before she was arrested by attending members.

Whilst in the Watchhouse, the woman allegedly assaulted officers again, by both spitting on them and kicking them.

The woman remains in custody and is expected to be charged with multiple offences including Resist arrest and Assault police.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Budge said “Over the course of this arrest, 4 officers have been assaulted by either being punched, kicked or spat on.

“Police should not have to endure this sort of abuse as they go about their duty protecting and serving the community and this offender will face court for her actions.”

Police urge anyone who witnesses anti-social or criminal behaviour to contact 131 444 and in the case of an emergency to call 000.
