Northern Territory Police have arrested a motorcyclist for travelling in excess of 110km/h over the speed limit and intoxicated yesterday.

Around 12:30pm, police observed the black Suzuki motorcycle travelling 192km/h in an 80km/h zone on the Stuart Highway, Coolalinga.

The 32-year-old male rider was apprehended by police near the intersection of Virginia Road, Virginia, where he tested positive for cannabis and methamphetamine.

He was arrested and conveyed to Palmerston Watch House where he was issued a Notice to Appear for:

  • Drive at a speed and manner dangerous to the public
  • Drive with prohibited drug in body

He is due to appear in Darwin Local Court on 10 August 2023.

Commander Daniel Bacon said “This type of reckless behaviour puts everyone on the roads at risk.

“It was simply dumb luck that this individual didn’t kill themselves, another motorist or a pedestrian, driving in this manner while intoxicated.

“Currently the lives lost on Territory roads sits at 7 as compared to 31 this time last year. Police are urging all motorists to be aware of their surroundings, slow down and to never drive while under the influence, it’s simply not worth it.”
