Police make arrest over drug offences in Darwin

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for drug offences.

At about 6:00am on Thursday 28 May 2020, detectives from the Drug and Organised Crime Division Gangs Task Force conducted a search warrant at a Darwin city residence.

The man allegedly struck a police officer to the face with his elbow, causing lacerations and swelling.

During the search police located:

  • $10,000 cash
  • several mobile phones
  • ice pipes
  • indicia of drug supply.

The man remains in custody however has not been charged at this time as investigations are ongoing.

New South Wales Police will extradite the man on Tuesday 2 June 2020 in relation to further drug matters in New South Wales.

Detective Superintendent Kerry Hoskins said, “This arrest in the Northern Territory highlights that policing these types of crimes is not restricted to borders and state boundaries. The NT Police will continue to work with other policing jurisdictions to disrupt and prevent the distribution of illicit drugs into the community.”
