Police make arrests after CBD aggravated affray

Nine men have been arrested following a violent altercation in the CBD over the weekend.

About 1am on Sunday 23 July, two groups of men were involved in a violent altercation inside a licensed premises on Leigh Street, Adelaide. The altercation continued into the street.

Today, following an investigation, officers from Licensing Enforcement Branch and Serious and Organised Crime Branch arrested nine men aged between 24 and 34 who all reside in the northern suburbs.

The men have all been charged with aggravated affray and barred from attending any licensed premises in the Adelaide CBD for a period of three months. They were all granted police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 23 November.

It will be alleged that two of the arrested men are members of the Gypsy Joker Motorcycle Club.

Officer in charge of Licensing Enforcement Branch, Chief Inspector Brett Humphrey said, “Licensed premises should be a place where people can enjoy a relaxed social setting and feel safe whilst doing so. This type of violent behaviour compromises public safety and will not be tolerated.”
