Police make arrests after police pursuit in North Adelaide, South Australia

Two men have been arrested following a pursuit with a stolen car in North Adelaide this afternoon.

About 3.20pm on Sunday 1 May, the owner of a stolen red Holden Commodore sedan saw his vehicle being driven in the Largs Bay area and alerted police. The owner stopped by the car and was allegedly threatened by a man holding an axe. The armed man, along with a second man and a woman got into the stolen car and drove off. The vehicle had been stolen overnight from Royal Park.

Patrols searched the area and initially spotted the stolen Holden southbound on Port Road and then again heading south on Main North Road, Gepps Cross about 3.45pm.

The Holden sedan was sighted again as it continued south on Main North Road and into North Adelaide where police commenced a pursuit with it through several back streets.

As it travelled back on to O’Connell Street it was involved in a collision at the corner of Childers Street with two civilians. The driver failed to stop and continued north on O’Connell Street where it collided with a police car on the corner of Barton Terrace West.

Police terminated the pursuit as the stolen car drove through the parklands past people playing on the sports field.

The stolen car then forced its way past several cars that were stationary at traffic lights at the intersection of Jeffcott Street and Park Terrace, colliding with two cars and then forcing another driver to take evasive action to avoid a crash.

Soon after, the vehicle was abandoned on Park Terrace, Bowden and two occupants ran off but they were quickly arrested by patrols.

Thankfully no one was injured in any of the crashes.

The Holden was also allegedly involved in two petrol thefts at Largs Bay and Wingfield earlier today.

A 29-year-old man from Parkside (driver) and a 26-year-old man from Para Hills West have been arrested and are being interviewed by police.
