Police make arrests – Property offences in Alice Springs

A 22-year-old man will appear before court on charges relating to using stolen credit cards in Alice Springs

It will be alleged the man and an unknown co-offender spent more than $1000 across 12 stores in Alice Springs using credit cards stolen from an unlawful entry of a home in Gillen on 27 October.

The man is further alleged to have spent nearly $80 using credit cards stolen from a separate unlawful entry at an arts centre on Larapinta Drive on 6 November.

The man was observed by police driving a stolen motor vehicle in the Gillen suburb on Friday night. Officers utilised the drone to follow the stolen vehicle and the man was subsequently arrested at a home in Larapinta.

The man will face additional charges in relation to two separate incidents in which he was identified as the offender.

On 7 October the man allegedly caused criminal damage to a property on Ellery Drive, and allegedly threatened the occupants when he was confronted.

On 20 October it is alleged the man entered a hostel on Parsons Street and snatched a bag from a man.

The man will appear before the Alice Springs Local Court on the following charges;

12 x Obtain benefit by deception

1 x Damage to property

1 x Going armed in public

1 x Stealing

1 x Aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle

1 x Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed.

Detective Senior Sergeant Rob Jordan said this is a great clear up from investigators from Strike Force Viper having reviewed large amounts of CCTV.

Detectives from Strike Force Viper apprehended a 12-year-old boy in relation to an attempted unlawful entry of a home in Larapinta on 8 November.

The youth was one four offenders who are alleged to have been disturbed by the occupant attempting to gain entry to a home in Larapinta.

Police in the area arrived on scene and gave chase, apprehending a 12-year-old boy. Three youth remain outstanding in relation to this incident.

The youth was taken to the Alice Springs Watch House and charged with one count each of Attempted unlawful entry, Damage to property and Trespass on premises.

He will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.

Detective Senior Sergeant Rob Jordan said Strike Force Viper will continue to track down these offenders and put them before the courts.

“If it wasn’t for the occupant of the house taking good photos of the offender then he may well still be at large” Det Snr Sgt Jordan said

“I encourage anyone having photos of these people breaking the law to provide them to police.”
