Police make arrests – Unlawful use of motor vehicle in Darwin

Northern Territory Police have arrested multiple youths in relation to several incidents around Darwin overnight.

Between 10:30pm and 11:30pm, police received reports that a green Toyota Hilux was stolen from Tiwi, a Mitsubishi ASX was stolen from The Esplanade and a white Toyota Corolla was stolen from Nightcliff.

The stolen Hilux was understood to have been involved in an unlawful entry at a business on Benison Road Winnellie and an attempted unlawful entry at a business on Whitewood Road Howard Springs.

Police located the Mitsubishi in Palmerston around 1am and called a pursuit, apprehending the vehicle in Karama after a tyre deflation device was deployed. Four youths aged between 12 and 15 were arrested at the scene.

At 2:40am, police located the Corolla on McMillians Road and a tyre deflation device deployed. The vehicle came to a stop near Lakeside Drive in Alawa a short time later. Another four youths aged between 11 and 15 were arrested at the scene.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said, “Charges are expected to be laid later today in relation to these offences.

“These arrests were the result of a well-coordinated effort by Strike Force Trident, Serious Crime and General Duties.

“The Toyota Hilux is still outstanding and we are urging anyone with information to any of these incidents, to make contact on 131 444.

“These stolen vehicles were being driven in a manner that was incredibly dangerous for everyone who was on the roads at the time. It was just lucky no one was injured or killed.”
