Police are well prepared for the hundreds of thousands of people expected to walk through the gates of this year’s Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix.
There will be a highly visible police presence at the event as the Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix celebrates its 25th race in Melbourne.
Superintendent Tony Silva said crowds at the international event have generally been very well behaved.
“However, we want to be clear that police will not tolerate any disruptive or criminal behaviour and we are committed to holding all offenders to account.,” Supt Silva said.
“As we do each year, we’re asking every person attending to think about their behaviour and stop it escalating into something which may impact on others.
“Police will be patrolling throughout the Grand Prix and will be on the lookout for any anti-social behaviour or alcohol related issues.
“We ask everyone attending the Grand Prix to be patient, drink responsibly and arrange travel plans well in advance.
“Officers from the Transit Safety Division will be patrolling public transport hubs to ensure people can get to and from the event safely.
“Highway Patrol officers will also be outside the Albert Park precinct to catch anyone engaging in dangerous, drink or drug driving.
“We want people to enjoy the event but more importantly, to get home safely.”
Frontline police will be supported by the Public Order Response Team, Transit Safety Division, Highway Patrol and other specialised police resources to ensure a safe and orderly event.
The Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2020 runs from 12 March to 15 March.
