Police responding to fatal traffic crash at Southedge

A woman has died following a two-vehicle traffic crash at Southedge, near Mareeba yesterday afternoon.

Preliminary investigations indicate around 3.40pm a sedan was travelling north on the Mulligan Highway, when it has collided with a truck heading south.

The driver of the sedan, a 39-year-old Mareeba woman, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Cairns Base Hospital where she later passed away.

A 4-year-old boy, travelling in the sedan was also airlifted to Townsville Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The truck driver, a 60-year-old man from Atherton, was not physically injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit continues to investigate the crash.
