Warrnambool Crime Investigation Unit detectives are searching for a man after he threatened a woman with a knife and made off with her car in Camperdown this afternoon.
Police have been told the woman was in her car at a shopping centre carpark, on the Princes Highway, when the armed man jumped in the backseat of her Kia and threatened her just after 3pm.
The woman was able to get out of her car before the man got into the driver’s seat and drove off.
The silver Kia was then sighted in Curdie Street in Cobden at the same time police received reports of an armed robbery in the street at a newsagency about 3.20pm.
On this occasion the offender entered the store with a knife and threatened the attendant before making off with an amount of cash.
The stolen car which was last seen heading back towards Camperdown has been found burnt out in Townsend Street in Mortlake.
Detectives with support of local police are searching for the man who it is believed was involved in both incidents.
He is described as having a thin to medium build and was last seen wearing an Adidas hooded top with white stripes down the arms, blue jeans, dark coloured gloves and was wearing a baseball cap with the hooded top pulled over his head.
He was carrying a knife and during the newsagency armed robbery was wearing either a black balaclava or face mask.
