Capalaba police investigating a traffic crash in which a cyclist was injured this morning are appealing for witnesses, and dash cam vision.
Officers are keen to speak with witnesses and obtain vision not only of the crash but the movements of a blue 2013 Yamaha motorcycle which travelled along Redland Bay Road, Capalaba shortly before 6am today, Tuesday, December 14.
Anyone who saw the motorcycle as it rode in a westerly direction along Redland Bay Road, including travelling through intersections with Neumann Road, Ney Road and Andrew Street is asked to contact police.
The male rider was wearing grey pants, a black motorcycle jacket, work boots, blue backpack and a black helmet.
Around 6am a three-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Redland Bay Road and Andrew Street with the motorcycle colliding with a pushbike before careering into the rear tray of a utility.
The cyclist, a 38-year-old Capalaba man, was transported to hospital for assessment to injuries including grazing and bruising. His bicycle was extensively damaged.
The motorcycle rider, a 27-year-old man from New Beith, was transported to hospital for treatment to wrist, arm and leg injuries with his motorcycle also extensively damaged.
A 60-year-old Capalaba man, driver of the utility, was not physically injured.
Investigating police would also like to speak with witnesses or obtain vision of the same motorcycle as it travelled along Boundary Road, Thornlands and through the intersection with Kinross Road, at around 2.30pm yesterday, Monday, December 13.
Senior Sergeant Dave Candale, Officer-in-Charge Capalaba Police said mere centimetres saved the cyclist from far greater injuries and potentially dire consequences from the collision.
“This is a timely reminder for all road users to be mindful of their behaviour, particularly surrounding the ‘Fatal 5’ – speed, distracted driving, drink or drug driving, fatigue and failing to wear a seatbelt”.
During 2021, Capalaba Police Division has seen five fatal traffic incidents involving motorcycles.
