Next week, Tasmania Police will reintroduce static roadside alcohol and drug testing operations across the state.
The process was suspended in March to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
“Static roadside operations will return from Monday, 24 August, with significant COVID-19 safe procedures in place to ensure the wellbeing of both community members and police officers,” said Assistant Commissioner Operations, Jonathan Higgins.
“Strict protocols around personal protective clothing and equipment and decontamination procedures will be followed at all times.”
“While we have continued to undertake targeted drug and alcohol testing since suspending our static sites, the return to these static operations will further bolster our road safety enforcement activities across Tasmania.”
“We are committed to preventing people from doing the wrong thing on our roads, and motorists should know that police can and will be anywhere, at any time, in any vehicle.”
“Police will continue to conduct both high-visibility and covert road safety enforcement activities across the state to help keep our roads safe for all Tasmanians.”
