Police update 2: Child exploitation operation at Townsville

Police have charged a woman with additional offences overnight in relation to Operation Tango Rosetta, an investigation into alleged child exploitation in Townsville.

A 38-year-old Condon woman has been charged with eight counts of making child exploitation material and one count each of possessing child exploitation material and distributing child exploitation material.

Her previous charges on July 22, include five counts of extortion, two counts of breaching a police protection notice and one count each of using a telecommunication service to facilitate commission of a serious offence, using a carriage service to menace or harass and wilful damage and drug related offences.

She is due to reappear in Townsville Magistrates Court on October 10.

On September 21, a 64-year-old Kelso man was charged with 12 additional offences including eight counts of making child exploitation material and one count each of distributing child exploitation material and possessing, controlling child abuse material for use through a carriage service, using a carriage service to groom another person to make it easier to procure person under 16 years of age and encouraging offence against division 272 (encouraging a person to assist in grooming a child).

His previous charges on July 22 (https://mypolice.page.link/WfiU), include three counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16, two counts of distribute child exploitation material and one count each of conduct business involving servitude, making child exploitation material, procure prostitution, using a carriage service to engage in sexual activity with a child under 16, indecent treatment of a lineal descendant and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear on Townsville Magistrates Court on October 8.

The three-month operation focused on a Townsville based syndicate of people who allegedly procured children for exploitation purposes over the past two years.

The victims range in age from one month to 14-years-old.
