Investigations continue into the serious assault of a man at Coomera on 22 September.
At approximately 6.40pm, the 66-year-old man was approached a group of young people at a shopping centre on Foxwell Road before allegedly being assaulted by two young males.
During the assault, the man fell to the ground and sustained a serious head injury. He was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
As a result of ongoing investigations by detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch, a 13-year-old Upper Coomera boy, who was not directly involved in the assault, has been dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act for an offence of publishing material about particular offending behaviour.
A 15-year-old Eagleby boy and a 16-year-old Springfield Lakes boy have been charged in connection with the assault.
Investigations remain ongoing, and police continue to appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information or vision to come forward.
Detective Inspector Mark Mooney said filming and sharing footage of violent incidents could have serious consequences.
“Publishing footage of certain offending behaviour can constitute a criminal offence, and we want young people to understand that their actions online can have serious consequences.
“If you witness an assault, your first priority should be your own safety and the safety of others.”
