Police update: armed robbery at Palm Beach, QLD

Police have charged a 28-year-old man in relation to the alleged armed robbery of a bottle shop at Palm Beach.

It is alleged around 10.30am on December 5, a man entered a liquor store on the Gold Coast Highway, produced a handgun and demanded cash. He left the store with cash and a quantity of cigarettes.

The sales attendant was not physically injured during the incident.

The man was located by police after being observed in stolen car at Stanhill Drive at Surfers Paradise around 1am today. He attempted to make a multi-point turn in a tight street to avoid police and allegedly struck a police vehicle twice while it was stationary before fleeing the scene.

The vehicle was tracked by use of cameras in Surfers Paradise to Peninsular Drive where it was discovered abandoned.

The man was eventually located by a Dog Squad officer hiding behind a wall in Leonard Avenue around 2.15am.

A 28-year-old man from Crestmead has been charged with armed robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evasion offence, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence SPER Susp (Qld Lic), stealing, burglary and commit indictable offence, serious assault police officer, fail to comply with duties of driver involved in a crash and give the drivers required particulars to any other driver as well as two counts of receiving tainted property.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.
