Police update: Fatal house fire, Russell Island

Police have located the bodies of six people at the scene of a house fire on Russell Island.

Emergency services were called to the Todman Street property at approximately 6.20am today.

The fire was well involved, destroying the home, and had spread to three neighbouring properties which sustained damage.

A 34-year-old man and five boys, aged 11, 10, twins aged four-years-old and a three-year-old were all unaccounted for.

Once the fire was extinguished this afternoon by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services an initial examination of the scene located the bodies of six people, believed to be a man and five children.

A port-mortem and scientific examination will take place to confirm the identities of the deceased.

A 28-year-old woman and a 21-year-old woman were able to escape the property and were transported to hospital where they are in a stable condition.

Investigations are continuing to determine the cause of the fire.

Police appeal to anyone with information or relevant vision to come forward.
