Police update: Fatal traffic crash at Stanwell

Police have charged a 41-year-old man in relation to the death of two people in a crash at Stanwell in October this year.

It is alleged in the traffic incident that occurred just after midday on October 10, an ambulance was stationary at a roadwork temporary traffic light in the eastbound lane on the Capricornia Highway at Stanwell. A truck also travelling east, collided with the rear of the ambulance causing extensive damage, pushing it off the roadway where it then rolled.

Two passengers in the back of the ambulance died at the scene.

At the time the driver of the truck was transported to the Rockhampton Hospital in a serious condition.

The driver and two additional passengers in the ambulance were also transported to the Rockhampton Hospital for treatment.

A 41-year-old man from The Grange has been charged with two counts of dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing deaths.

He is due to face the Rockhampton Magistrates Court today.
