Detectives have charged a man following investigations into an alleged assault in Bushland Beach on May 31.
Initial investigations indicate about 11pm, a 23-year-old Aitkenvale man was at a licensed premises on Livistonia Drive where a physical altercation with a group occurred.
After the altercation the man was allegedly approached from behind and struck in the back of the head by someone from the group, causing him to fall backwards.
The 23-year-old man hit his head on the ground and was taken to Townsville Hospital for treatment of head injuries.
As a result of their investigations police have charged a 30-year-old Bohle Plains man with assault occasioning bodily harm.
He is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on June 16.
