At last night’s meeting Campaspe Shire Council was presented with the findings of the recently concluded consultation on the Campaspe Economic Development and Tourism Strategy (CEDTS). The comprehensive report, prepared by expert external consultants, outlined key findings and recommendations crucial for shaping the region’s economic future.

Mayor Rob Amos said it was pleasing to see such a high level of engagement from across the municipality from a variety of sectors.

“The community actively participated in the engagement process, expressing eagerness for Council’s response to their suggestions.

“The report revealed areas where Council’s existing ongoing efforts align with community needs, such as infrastructure projects, business facilitation, efficient planning approvals, advocacy against detrimental federal and state government policies, and strategic partnerships.”

The engagement period, which spanned from mid-May to the end of August 2023, aimed to connect Council with industry and community stakeholders. Objectives included understanding business needs, fostering partnerships, engaging the entire Campaspe Shire, and creating ongoing interest in the CEDTS implementation.

“The report also highlighted potential gaps in community awareness of our existing efforts which suggests the need for more effective communication about Council’s initiatives,” Mayor Amos added.

Additionally, the report emphasised the importance of adopting a greater strategic and aspirational perspective in economic development, addressing emerging issues such as the proposed reintroduction of water buybacks by the Australian Government.

Council agreed to release the report for public viewing and endorsed a revised timeline for the development of the CEDTS until June 2024

“This will enable Council to build on the findings of the report, update information, and continue stakeholder engagement.

“The revised timeline takes into account recent staff recruitment and resource availability and will ensure the delivery of a robust and innovative strategy by June 2024,” Mayor Amos said.
