The Pyalong Recreation Reserve Hall is now better equipped to support the community during emergencies and everyday activities, thanks to the installation of a new solar photovoltaic (PV) system, battery energy storage system and generator connection point.
As a designated Place of Last Resort and informal emergency relief centre, the hall can continue operating during power outages, providing essential services such as lighting, refrigeration, food preparation, hot water, communications and device charging. This added resilience will help the community respond to emergencies including bushfires, floods and extended power outages.
The benefits extend well beyond emergency preparedness. The hall is a valued community hub, hosting local sporting clubs, community groups and events throughout the year. By generating renewable energy on-site, the new system will reduce electricity costs, allowing the Committee of Management to reinvest savings into future improvements and community initiatives.
The project was delivered through a collaborative partnership between Council, funding partners, contractors, the Committee of Management and local sporting clubs. It demonstrates how investing in renewable energy can strengthen community resilience, improve energy security and reduce emissions, helping ensure the Pyalong Recreation Reserve Hall remains a reliable and sustainable community asset for years to come.
