Work is set to begin on the construction of a new footpath along Powlett Street in Inverloch.
This $180,000 project is funded by Bass Coast Shire Council’s Footpath Gaps and is part of the adopted 2020/21 Capital Works Program.
Work is expected to be completed by mid-November, subject to favourable weather and contractor availability.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, said Powlett Street had been identified as one of the top priority paths in Council’s Pathway Gaps and Extension Program.
“The construction of this footpath along Powlett Street is great news for the Inverloch community,” Cr Tessari said.
“Once built, the footpath will provide a safe and accessible connection for pedestrians between the Bass Highway and the Inverloch town centre.”
The works will involve the construction of a new two-metre wide, fibre reinforced concrete path on the west side of Powlett Street between Sandy Mount Avenue and Bear Street, including service adjustments for Telstra as required.
As part of the works, some tree trimming along Powlett Street, including the removal of one tree from the nature strip, will need to be carried out and some driveways will need to be adjusted, as they are too steep to meet Disability Discrimination Act compliance for the new footpath. Council officers will continue to work with affected landowners.
